Montenegro by camper — short and useful
Campsites
Organised campsites exist by the sea (around Budva, Ulcinj, Ada Bojana) and in the north (Žabljak). Overnighting in the wild isn't allowed everywhere — check local rules.
Best routes
North: Nikšić → Plužine and the Piva canyon → Žabljak → the Tara canyon. Coast: Herceg Novi → the Bay → Budva → Ulcinj, with a detour to Lake Skadar.
Season
Late spring and September are best: the sea is warm, campsites are half-empty and the mountains aren't cold yet.
Good to know
Mountain roads are narrow with few passing places — drive slowly and plan water, fuel and tank emptying at campsites in advance.
