Automatic car hire — for serpentines, hills and traffic
Montenegro is a country of climbs: the Kotor serpentines, Herceg Novi's steep streets, the queue into Budva. With an automatic you think about the road, not the clutch. Peak has automatics in its fleet and delivers them to the airports and your address.

Where an automatic makes the biggest difference
Kotor — Njeguši
25 hairpins uphill, often behind a bus. Hill starts without a clutch are far calmer.
Budva and Jaz in summer
Stop-start queues — no tired left leg in an automatic.
Herceg Novi and Perast
Steep one-way streets and parking on a slope.

Tips for hiring an automatic
- Automatics sell out first in summer — for July and August book at least 3–4 weeks ahead.
- A hybrid uses the least fuel in town and traffic, ideal for the coast.
- On long descents (Lovćen, Kotor) shift to a lower gear (L/B or manual mode) so you don't overheat the brakes.
Automatic car hire — questions
Is an automatic more expensive than a manual?
Usually a little — you see each automatic's price on the card above and in the booking, with no hidden extras. You pay at pick-up.
Can I get an automatic at Tivat or Podgorica Airport?
Yes — Peak delivers automatics to both airports and to your accommodation. Add your flight number to the booking.
Do I need a special licence for an automatic?
No. Your regular driving licence is valid; if it's restricted to automatics, you can still drive an automatic.
