Tivat Airport in practice

Tivat Airport is small and seasonal: from April to October it takes most of the charter and low-cost flights to the coast, and the runway ends almost in the sea. The car park in front of the terminal is cramped and full all summer, so we hand over Peak cars face to face right at the exit — no desk, no queue and no circling the car park.

Add your flight number to the booking. If the plane is late we see it and come at the new time. Checking the car, photographing its condition and signing the contract take about ten minutes, and that's when you pay — cash or card.

Your first kilometres: where to from the airport

Leaving the airport you hit a roundabout on the Adriatic coast road. Right takes you to Budva (20 km, about 25 minutes), left to Tivat, Kotor and the ferry to Herceg Novi. The fastest way to Kotor is through the Vrmac tunnel — 8 km and 15 minutes instead of driving round the bay.

For Herceg Novi, Igalo and Luštica, take the Lepetane — Kamenari ferry: it runs day and night, the crossing takes a few minutes and saves nearly an hour round the Bay. You pay at the crossing; on summer afternoons allow for a 15–30 minute queue.

Returning the car and flying home

On departure day, arrive at the airport at least two hours before your flight and message us when you set off — we'll meet you at the car park exit. There's a fuel station on the main road a few minutes from the terminal towards Tivat; fill up there and there's no fuel difference to settle.

In summer the Budva — Jaz — airport stretch is slow from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00. If you fly in those windows, leave half an hour earlier than your sat-nav suggests.

Before you set off

Six things worth knowing before the first bend

The short briefing we give every guest when we hand over the keys — so you can drive around Montenegro relaxed, with no surprises on the road.

Coast road & tunnels

The coast is linked by the Adriatic highway — scenic, but narrow and full of bends, so allow more time than your map suggests. The only toll is the Sozina tunnel between Podgorica and Bar (about €2.50); the Smokovac–Mateševo motorway section is free.

Speed & lights

50 km/h in built-up areas, 80 km/h outside them, up to 100 km/h on the motorway. Dipped headlights stay on all day, everyone in the car wears a seatbelt, and the alcohol limit is 0.03% — so the rule is simple: if you drive, you don't drink. Speed cameras are common at town entrances.

Parking on the coast

Budva, Kotor, Tivat and Bar use paid parking zones (roughly €0.50–1 an hour), paid by SMS or at a meter. Old towns are closed to cars — leave the car at the car park by the gate and walk in. In July and August, arrive early in the morning.

Heading north

Durmitor, Žabljak and the Tara canyon are unmissable, but the roads are mountain roads and filling stations are few. Fill the tank in Podgorica or Nikšić, and outside summer check the forecast — the weather changes quickly at altitude.

Fuel

A litre of petrol or diesel costs about €1.50–1.65 (2026). Along the coast road and in larger towns, stations stay open at night. You collect and return the car with the same fuel level, so top up before drop-off.

Borders & help

Driving into Croatia, Albania or Bosnia is only possible with our written consent and a Green Card — tell us when you book. Emergency numbers: 112 general, 122 police, 124 ambulance, 19807 roadside assistance. For anything about the car, call us directly.

Questions about airport pick-up

Does Peak have a desk at Tivat Airport?

No — we hand the car over in person at the terminal exit. There's no queue, and early-morning and late-night flights are covered by arrangement.

What's the fastest way from Tivat Airport to Herceg Novi?

The Lepetane — Kamenari ferry: it's 10 minutes from the airport to the ferry and the crossing takes a few minutes, so you're in Herceg Novi in about 35 minutes instead of an hour and a half round the bay.

How does pick-up at Tivat Airport work?

Add your flight number and time when you book. When you land, our driver is waiting with the car outside the terminal exit — you check the car together, sign the agreement and set off straight away.

What if my flight is delayed?

We follow your flight and adjust to the new arrival time. No need to call — just keep your phone on after landing.

How much is car hire at Tivat Airport?

The price depends on the model, the season and the number of days, and it's shown in full as soon as you enter your dates. You book directly with us, with no broker commission, and pay only at pick-up.

Can I drive from Tivat to Dubrovnik or Albania?

Yes, with our written consent and a Green Card — mention it when you book. The Croatian border at Debeli Brijeg is less than an hour from the airport.

Which documents do I need, and how much is the deposit?

A driving licence and a passport or ID card. The deposit depends on the protection plan: the standard refundable deposit applies without a plan, Comfort reduces it and with Summit there's no deposit at all.
